Don Coyne hosts Fishing the Ocean State
To quote the URI fight song, Don Coyne is Rhode Island born and Rhode Island bred and when he dies he’ll be Rhode Island dead. A lifelong Rhode Island resident, Don has been a television sportscaster in his home state for over 20 years. Currently Don is an anchor/reporter for WLNE-TV (ABC6) in Providence.
Over the years Don has covered the Final Four, four NBA Finals, two Stanley Cup Finals, five Super Bowls (including 23 straight Patriot playoff games) and two World Series. Yes he was there when the ball went thru Bill Buckner’s legs. Despite covering these and other numerous big time events, Don has always preferred covering the smaller, human interest stories back in his home state.
A winner of the New England Emmy for Sports Reporting, Don has been nominated for numerous other Emmy Awards for everything from reporting to producing to play-by-play. Don has taken these skills to hope promote recreational fishing in Rhode Island.
A graduate of South Kingstown High School and the University of Rhode Island, class of 1983, Don is married with three children. The family resides in North Kingstown.
