Well it was my first time fluking today for this year and it felt great. I was lucky enough to jump on board with fellow RISAA member Paul K. and we hit the fluke very good. Only spent about 5 hours and I got my limit of keepers and about 5 throw backs. The keepers ranged from 20 to 26" and nice fat fish. We were using fluke belly stips and mummies or squid strips and mummies. Most of my fish came on my new chartreuse bucktails with glow-beads. We fished the end of the outgoing and the incoming tides on the west side of Jamestown south of the bridge. Looks also had good luck with a red-head jig with glow squid on it. Tight Lines all Armand

We caught 4 bull mahi today east of the lower butterfish hole all on pots. We were after tuna, but didn't see or hook any. 3 of the 4 fish were caught on Ballyhoo w/ Islanders and 1 was caught on a squid bar. Water temp was in the 77-78 deg all over.

The "Letter of Marque" had a good day yesterday, south of the Block. Six bluefin hit, four were actually taken aboard. We kept a 60 pounder (first photo) and tagged the three remaining fish that were landed - for the Large Pelagic Research Lab's "Tag a Tiny" Program. The 60 ponder was landed by Matt Laffey. Pictured is Chad Forsaith (left) and Matt. The second shot is of the tagging of one of the smaller bluefin. Third shot is of the bragging flags coming back into Wickford Cove. Missed one fish that most likely exceeded 200 pounds. Was taken on lighter tackle, Seragossa reel with braided line. Unfortunately the fight didn't last long. Headed to Block Island with my "little" brother who was visiting from NJ. We fished from about 7am to 9am and had 14 bass and one bluefish. The bass were all 18-22lb, 32-37 inch average Block Island bass caught on eels. I think the combination of the fog and nice swell kept these fish in a little tighter to shore a little later in the day and the approaching low pressure really had the fish turned on. We were casting eels inside the first contour line off Great Point on the South Side of the island. The bite was constant. If I didn't need to keep the bow pointed into the swell and be at the helm, we would have had multiple doubles. The two times Joel and I each soaked an eel they were both picked up immediately. Made a quick AM run for fluke. Fished around Jamestown bridge. Drift and tide weren't working, so had to power drift. Found some bait at 20'. water at 66. Fluke are still on spearing. Hit glow squid rigs tipped with spearing, no squid. Caught ten, two very nice keepers at 24 & 25". The faster the drift the harder they hit. Caught one drifting at 1.3 knots. Short drifts, about 100 feet. Bite died at AM slack.

Fished the North Rip at BI with Craig Picard starting around 5am Saturday morning. Water surface temp 53 degrees. Good overall conditions - tide was just changing over to incoming. Managed 9 bass to 16 lbs., 34" all caught on 3" Storm Shads. All fish keeper sized., and all T & R for ALS. Spent a couple more hours trying to find fluke in 40-60 ft. of water south and east of Pt. Judith, with only a couple of shorts to show for it, along with 3 nice sea bass for Craig. Great way to start the season.
